The IUED carries out continuing education and research projects in conjunction with numerous partners in professional practice.

Language exams for teaching professions

On behalf of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education ( "Schweizerische Konferenz der kantonalen Erziehungsdirektoren" or "EDK" in German), the IUED carries out language tests (in German, French and Italian) for the recognition of foreign teachers' teaching qualifications.

"Behörden- und Gerichtsdolmetschen" research project

This project evolved from the Certificate of Advanced Studies course in Interpreting for Public Authorities and Courts. The project assesses current interpreting practice in the public authority and court context. Its objective is to define a scientific basis for:

  • improving interpreting practice, i.e. the interplay between specialist knowledge, linguistic competence and interpreting competence.
  • professionalising the status of interpreters in the justice system

 

"Dolmetschen im Gesundheitswesen" research project

The Centre for Continuing Education is currently developing a framework for possible future training courses for interpreters in the health care sector.

Research project "Roles and responsibilities of interpreters in the hospital context"

The objective of this CTI project is to provide detailed insights into the work of medical interpreters. The results of this interdisciplinary analysis are intended to provide the basis for defining standards and codes of best practice for medical staff conducting patient interviews, interpreters and intermediators.
