Bachelor of Arts in Translation The Institute of Translation and Interpreting offers a BA degree programme in Translation, with specialisations in Multilingual Communication, Multimodal Communication or Technical Communication
Profile The Institute of Translation and Interpreting offers a B.A. degree programme in Translation with specialisation in: Multilingual Communication, Multimodal Communication and Technical Communication.
Admission requirements and procedures To be eligible for admission candidates must present either a Swiss baccalaureate , a specialist baccalaureate , a vocational baccalaureate or the foreign equivalent of one of these qualifications, or a Swiss commercial diploma awarded by a recognised commercial secondary school.
Aptitude assessment In addition to the formal admission requirements, all candidates must also undergo and pass a suitability assessment.
IT test In addition to the suitability assessment, candidates will also be required to sit an IT test, whose purpose is to establish whether they have sufficient computer skills to be able to make effective use of the IT infrastructure they will need to use during their studies.

Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics The School of Applied Linguistics offers an MA in Applied Linguistics (MA AL) with specialisations in Conference Interpreting, Professional Translation and Organisational Communication.
Profile Our MA in Applied Linguistics gives you the chance to become an expert in the field of multilingual communication. You learn to mediate between languages, audiences and cultures, an essential skill in a world where globalisation and developments in the media have completely transformed business and society.
Programme structure Our MA in Applied Linguistics comprises a joint programme and a specialisation programme. Your chosen specialisation, Conference Interpreting or Professional Translation, takes you from the science to the practice of multilingual communication.
Joint Programme The courses/modules in the joint programme are taken by all MA students, irrespective of their chosen specialisation. This allows you to broaden your horizons and gain an insight into the strategies adopted in related professional fields; it also gives you the chance to extend your network.
Conference Interpreting As a student of Conference Interpreting, you already have an outstanding command of your mother tongue and of at least two foreign languages. The programme builds on your language competence and enables you to acquire the techniques and strategies of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
Professional Translation As a student of Professional Translation, you already have an outstanding command of your mother tongue and of at least two foreign languages. The programme builds on your language competence and allows you to gain an insight into translation theories and methods. You apply these in selected areas from the fields of commerce, law, science and technology and, in this way, gain a deeper understanding of the translation process.

Admission Admission to the MA in Applied Linguistics is subject to certain formal conditions and basic prerequisites and to further conditions specific to the candidate's chosen specialisation.
Preparation We recommend candidates interested in the MA specialisation in Conference Interpreting to take the one-semester Interpreting Preparation Course.

Continuing education The continuing education curriculum comprises Master of Advanced Studies degree programmes and Certificates of Advanced Study programmes, as well as a range of other continuing education courses, which can also be organised for individual corporate clients.
Master of Advanced Studies Continuing education masters programmes last 3-4 semesters and culminate, on graduation, in the award of a Master of Advanced Studies degree.
Certificate of Advanced Studies Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) courses generally comprise between 100 and 200 lessons. They last 1 - 2 semesters and culminate in the award of a Certificate of Advanced Studies.
Continuing education courses The School of Applied Linguistics offers courses, which can all be structured as company training courses to meet the needs of individual corporate clients.
Research The research and development work carried out at the School of Applied Linguistics is closely driven by specific practitioner needs and is focused on practical applicability.
Applied Linguistics Research Services The School of Applied Linguistics Research Services co-ordinate the School’s research activities and conduct research of their own.
Publications In addition to their usual publication activities, the School of Applied Linguistics Research Services also publishes a series of articles in German entitled Sprachenlernen Konkret!
